I had no idea you were informed. I'm sorry for dragging it back up, then.
Kaidan... can I ask you a couple of questions?
[ Will might have ruled him out of the suspect list. She's got her own skepticism, but following up is vital at this point. ]
It's about the nature of your relationship with Lounds.
action
[ Said blithely, but with a twist of his lips. He doesn't like it, it's messy business -- murder like this. He didn't have to see it often, and he'd been investigated for murder before -- and been guilty, but...
Well, he'd never been tried. You couldn't try teenagers who'd been kidnapped for a secret, illegal project, could you? ]
What sort of things do you want to know?
action
action
[ A scoff. ]
No. She, ah, came onto me once -- we were going out for drinks -- but I'd... I was already interested in someone else. [ He's been holding onto this flame for like three years. ] I wasn't the type to go for one night stands, anyway.
action
Something isn't adding up. ]
So nothing happened at all between you two? How did she react?
action
[ He shrugged, and tilted his head. ]
I mean, I know I'd be embarrassed.
action
[ She cocks her hip, trying to make sense of Chilton naming Kaidan of all his patients. Maybe he was the only with a connection to Freddie? ]
action
But she knew I disagreed, and she knew why. I didn't respect her choices, but she...had a good heart in there. As difficult as it might've seemed sometimes.
action
Sounds like you two were close enough. [ She lifts a hand to place onto his shoulder in a comforting gesture. ] I'm very sorry about, Kaidan.
action
[ He sighed, but didn't move her hand. ]
I'm used to losing friends, I've... lost some pretty important people in my life. But Freddie didn't deserve whatever happened to her. Murder? That's worse than dying on the battlefield. At least then you go down swinging. Murder just feels dirty -- wrong.
action
[ She pulls her hand back, placing it against her hip. ]
This is might seem random, but given everything I have to ask: is Dr. Chilton your psychiatrist?
action
Yeah, but I'm a bit bad about seeing him. Why? Do you think he did something?
action
[ He seemed indebted to her and genuinely so. ]
Are you both getting along?
action
This is a weird direction to take things.
action
action
[ He took a step back, eyebrows knitted in consternation. ]
Did he give a reason?
action
[ Trying to assemble a suspects list, and Chilton gave her Kaidan's name. ]
You're both telling me very different stories.
[ So, he can see where the issue lies. ]
action
[ He sighed, and shook his head. ]
I don't know why the doctor brought my name up? We never even talked about Freddie. We're -- we were friends. I don't know why he'd think that I'd -- have anything to do with --
[ He made a face, contorted and frustrated, and sad.] -- her death.
action
[ She raises both brows, mildly alarmed. ]
... that's not what he told me. The whole reason I'm here is because I thought you and Lounds had a relationship at one point and that there was, as Doc put it, "miscommunication" going on.
action
So we finished our drinks, and left?
action
[ And she's looking quite put-off suddenly, though it isn't directed at Kaidan. ]
action
To give him that impression, we never slept together, but maybe something I said made him think we did.
action
action
[ He moved, then. Pacing, trying to work out -- ]
I might've talked about it with him in a bar, once. I think I told him that we had different ideas about what we wanted.
