We were the only imPort reporters for a long while so we kind of became friends. I know her style wasn't people's favorite but I think she was actually a really good person underneath.

Is this about her murder?

[ Hearing that from him especially makes her feel a little more guilty. ]

... it is. I was wondering if maybe she was killed because she discovered something she wasn't supposed to.

I had the same kind of thoughts. Asked Will to keep me informed on the investigation but it seems to be slow-going.

Batman is helping him.

[ Just a bit displeased Will accepted help from Batman, but butted heads with her. Batman is not exactly friendly!! ]

He had a problem with me, but not the guy who dresses up as a bat?

Did she mention or pass any notes along to you before she was killed? Was she acting strangely?

[Because that's a safer topic to discuss than Batman. If they keep talking about him she might eventually wonder if he's from the same world they are... and Clark might have promised to help him pretend he is, but he's not ready to outright lie about it.]

No, she didn't. Or at least I didn't notice anything strange about her, but we only talked a couple of weeks before she got murderer so a lot could have happened since then. She wasn't exactly eager to give me details. Reporter's rivalry.

[ After a minute: ]

I screwed up with her. This might be on me.

[A pause on Kal's end as well.]

What happened?

Some months ago she asked for my protection basically. She was worried about someone from her world who's no longer here.
But when she badgered Kanaya I told her she was on her own.

[On one hand, he can see where she's coming from and he'd feel just as guilty if he were her.]

What she was doing to Kanaya wasn't right. I called her out on it as well. You did what you thought was right. Especially if said person is no longer here.

We're not bodyguards on call, PG.

Logically I know this.
I just can't help but feel I could have done something more.

[And there's the other hand. He guesses the L family is just as prone to guilt complexes as the Els are.]

We're definitely not omniscient and all-powerful either. If she had thought she was in such immediate danger she would have looked for someone else for protection the moment you got angry at her. Even me if she wanted someone with your powers, or just someone else.

I know.
Ugh, we're not even one step closer to finding out what happened to her. You know the coroner's report reported no DNA from her assailant? Nothing at all.

Will said the same. And it's been months by now. I'm sorry, I really wish I knew what the next step should be.

It's for the best Batman is helping out. Murder mysteries are not exactly my forte.

Nor mine. I hope getting involved in this will be an exception, and not the new norm in this place.

I'm going to talk to Will anyway.
We might not see eye-to-eye, but I'd rather be working with him than against him.

What's his problem with you, anyway? Anything specific? Maybe I could help.

I don't think Will is used to superheroes assisting in cases like these. I think it was off-putting for him.

[He's half-way through a chastising text before he catches himself and deletes it. She said 'threatened', not that she'd really do it. And Rao knows Clark has done his fair share of 'threatening'.]

Someone actually threw Freddie off a roof once, so I bet the thread was really unnerving to them. It's hard to remember people in this place still see a lot of powers as unusual and scary at best, terrifying at worst.

I haven't interacted with Will as Superman, now that I think of it.

That's what I heard.
I know he doesn't want this case to go unsolved. He was worried about publicizing it for that reason.

I'm pretty sure he just told me because Freddie and I were friends. I'm just glad I could at least nudge Batman into helping.

But if he can't figure it out I really don't know what the next step should be.

Someone has to know SOMETHING.
I'll keep digging. I'm not ready to give up on this just yet.
