So if a very nice and gentle kid who shares a name with a certain Kryptonian General who wants to make everyone kneel before him told you he has nothing to do with the man, would you believe him?

[He's really not chastising. He's taking her advice to heart.]

Even if we knew a psychic in this place I think that would damage the kid's trust a lot. He seemed so worried I would dislike or misstrust him, it was pretty heartbreaking.

But at the same time I'm not the best judge of character wherever Kryptonians are involved. [Kara, Chris, Alura, Karen herself... as soon as he meets someone from his same race his emotions cloud his judgement.]

He's just a kid. I really don't know what to do.

Zod, huh? I didn't know what to do then either, so I felt it was better to push him away. I couldn't take a chance.

[ Because of Clark's situation back then. The last thing he needed was a kid playing on his emotions. ]

Yes. He says his father was a follower of Dru-Zod and that's why he got the name, but he only heard some legends about the man and has no relation to him.

He said he was born in the phantom zone. [And doesn't that sound familiar?]

How can we be sure he isn't lying?
I know he's a kid, but it's not as if we've never had to deal with them before in our line of work.

I don't know, I'm fresh out of ideas that wouldn't put him on edge and betray his trust. I listened to his heartbeat and it didn't sound like he was lying to me.

I think you're better at that than I am.
But I'd... probably do the same thing next to monitoring him closely. If he's been here this long, he might not be trouble.
Or he's biding his time.

He's just a kid. I just have a hard time imagining him plotting all of this to get closer to me in particular or us in general.

[Which is exactly part of the problem.]

If I contact Batman, he'll be pretty ruthless with the kid. Do you think I should still tell him?

Are we the only ones with experience with kids? Everyone else is either Hal Jordan (do not send him to Hal) or the kids themselves.
Batman didn't get to be one of the greatest detectives in the world for nothing, but I do kind of get the feeling he might freak him out.

[He really wasn't going to send the kid to Hal, but it feels unfair to say that. So he simply lets that one go unanswered.]

Actually, sending him to the other kids isn't such a bad idea. Maybe they will put them at ease. And if he has any relation to the General it's me he wants anyway, not them.

Jaime and Wally are good kids. I think Jaime especially would get along with him since he seems to have a lot of patience in him.

And Wally might push him enough to get him out of his shy shell, if he isn't acting.

That would be him. But if you already know then I guess you know how distrustful he is of his grandfather.

I was surprised at first, but if Osborn was this Green Goblin then I can't blame him. Hopefully the apple fell far, far from the tree.

We were the only imPort reporters for a long while so we kind of became friends. I know her style wasn't people's favorite but I think she was actually a really good person underneath.

I had the same kind of thoughts. Asked Will to keep me informed on the investigation but it seems to be slow-going.

[Because that's a safer topic to discuss than Batman. If they keep talking about him she might eventually wonder if he's from the same world they are... and Clark might have promised to help him pretend he is, but he's not ready to outright lie about it.]

No, she didn't. Or at least I didn't notice anything strange about her, but we only talked a couple of weeks before she got murderer so a lot could have happened since then. She wasn't exactly eager to give me details. Reporter's rivalry.
